The Lost Garden Retreat

The Lost Garden Retreat glamping in Suffolk

Love the idea of camping, but not the reality of cramped spaces, soggy sleeping bags and communal toilets? I have the perfect solution for you: The Lost Garden Retreat in Hintlesham, Suffolk.

It has all the luxury of a boutique hotel that just happens to be under canvas. The decor is stylish and understated, the setting idyllic and the tents are fully equipped with everything you need to have a super-chilled and relaxing experience. I recognise that having electricity, a dishwasher + a hairdryer in the tent probably technically precludes it from the camping category, but…

There are four tents, all with a slightly different vibe. We were there with friends – we took over the entire site – so I got a good feel for all four and my personal favourite is The Artist’s Retreat. They are all lovely, but this tent is the most modern and pared back – I loved the bamboo lights, velvet couches and the swing seat on the deck.

Each tent has a hot tub (always a massive hit with children), an outdoor fire and a BBQ. There are miles of incredible walks starting from the campsite, riding schools in the area and a golf course next door, so if you feel the need to be active you have options. Lavenham and Boxford are two picturesque nearby villages worth visiting (both have shops, pubs and restaurants) and I can also recommend a stroll through the beautiful Polstead woods.

It’s under two hours from London but feels like a world away. Take my word for it and go.
